First of the Month Favorites: Breakfast Spots
I’m not usually a breakfast person—I’m usually more of a "coffee-and-go" type. But Central Oregon has a way of making you want to slow down. Whether you’re fueling up for a hike or enjoying a slow Sunday, these are the spots that actually get me out the door.
One Street Down Cafe – Redmond
One Street Down is a sweet little cottage just a few blocks off the main drag in Redmond. They serve both breakfast and lunch, with a menu full of comforting classics. My favorite is the skillet scramble with sweet potatoes and goat cheese, but their pancakes are definitely worth the splurge. You can sit inside or enjoy the lawn on a sunny day, and the service is always friendly and welcoming.
Cottonwood Cafe – Sisters
Cottonwood Cafe was a huge surprise for me and has become a treasure I return to again and again. The menu has a New Orleans flair that you wouldn't expect in the high desert. My absolute go-to? The shrimp and grits—spicy, savory, and truly "to die for." Because the cafe is housed in a cozy, history-rich building, it’s tiny—so be prepared for a bit of a wait on weekends. Pro tip: Put your name in and take a quick stroll down Cascade Avenue; the wait is part of the Sisters experience.
Brand 44N – Terrebonne
Brand 44N is where you go when you want bold flavors and generous portions. Whether you belly up to the bar or sit on the expansive patio, the atmosphere is always buzzing and the staff is amazing. Located in the heart of Terrebonne, it’s the perfect fueling station after tackling the Misery Ridge trail at Smith Rock State Park.
Nancy P’s – Bend
Tucked into a quiet corner on Bend’s westside, Nancy P’s is a local staple that still feels like a secret gem. Their baked goods are outstanding—from savory quiches to scones with seasonal berries. They offer excellent salads and lunches as well, plus beautiful ready-made and custom desserts. It’s the kind of neighborhood spot that makes mornings feel a little more connected, or worth making the trip for on the way to Bachelor.
✨ Honorable Mentions
Sisters Bakery – Sisters
Of course I could not forget the Sisters Bakery! Their pastries, breads, and baked goods are the stuff of legend. Even if you just pop in for a quick maple bar or a loaf of fresh bread, you’ll understand why this place has earned its iconic status. Pro tip: Ask about their Chicken Pot Pie for a super easy take-and-bake dinner!
M’s Bakery – Bend
Located in the Old Mill, M’s is a relative newcomer that has quickly won me over. They offer a marvelous assortment of treats, including incredible gluten-free sourdough boules. Their monkey bread is worth the trip alone—perfect for sharing with your favorite person before a stroll through the shops or a walk over to the river.
Breakfast is personal, and these are the spots that make mornings feel a little brighter, a little more indulgent, and a lot more memorable. Some are classics, some are gems, and all are worth the trip.
