Tumalo's farm season doesn't wind down slowly. It ends in one compressed stretch on the 2026 calendar. From Saturday, October 24 through Sunday, November 1, the lavender farm holds its closing party, the last Saturday market runs at Well Rooted Produce, the pumpkin patch at Schilling's closes, and the Sno-Park permit season opens up the road. After that, Tumalo runs on a much shorter list of places. They are the ones whose own websites post hours with no closing date.
That leaves four Saturdays before the closing stretch and two inside it. The rest of this post covers what's still open between now and then, and what stays open afterward.
The Closing Stretch, in Order
October 2026 is set up so that most of the season's endings land on weekends. Today is Saturday, October 3, so the dates below fall like this:
- Saturday, October 24. Tumalo Lavender's End of Season Harvest Party runs at the farm on Connarn Road, and Well Rooted Produce holds its second-to-last Saturday market.
- Saturday, October 31. Well Rooted's Saturday market runs for the last time this year, and Tumalo Lavender hosts a ceramics workshop.
- Sunday, November 1. Schilling's Garden Market closes its Patch with a View pumpkin patch, and the winter Sno-Park permit period begins at Skyliner Sno-Park, the winter access point for Tumalo Falls.
Eight days separate the first ending from the last. The farms are spread across Swalley Road, Connarn Road, and the area around them, and they finish their public seasons almost together.
Well Rooted Is Still Picking
The farm with the most left to give this month is Well Rooted Produce at 20377 Swalley Road. Its U-pick fields are open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. In an update posted October 2, 2026, the farm said squash and pumpkins are "abundant" and its ever-bearing strawberries are "still plentiful for picking." Potatoes, peppers, onions, and tomatoes are also on the list, and sweet corn is sold in the farmstand.
Strawberries in October are the detail that matters here. Ever-bearing varieties keep fruiting into fall, so a family can pick berries and pumpkins on the same visit to the same field this month. That combination lasts only until the cold catches up.
The Saturday markets run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through October 31. Well Rooted lists prepared samples from the fields, educational tables, and scavenger hunts for kids, all under new shade awnings put up this season. The farm asks visitors to wear closed-toe, supportive shoes for the uneven ground and loose dirt. It also welcomes friendly dogs in the fields. So a weekday pick after work is a reasonable plan, and the Saturday market is the more social version of the same stop.
The Lavender Farm Closes Its Season With a Free Party
Tumalo Lavender, at 19825 Connarn Road, ends its season more formally than most farms. The End of Season Harvest Party on October 24 is free and family-friendly, and the farm asks guests to RSVP through Eventbrite. Conner Bennett plays live music from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., a return booking the farm calls "back by popular demand." There will be fires, food and drinks for purchase, and the farm store open with products made on site.
The farm's calendar has one more event after that. On October 31, Krista Brenner of La Luce Studio leads a handbuilding workshop where participants make their own ceramic charcuterie board or serving plate. Both dates fall in the closing stretch, and Halloween lands on the same Saturday as Well Rooted's last market. A household could reasonably spend that morning on Swalley Road and the afternoon on Connarn Road.
The Pumpkin Patch Lasts One Day Longer
Schilling's Garden Market runs its Patch with a View from September 26 through November 1, 2026. Its normal hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. That makes November 1 a short final day, and the patch closes at 3 p.m. Along with pumpkins, Schilling's lists a hay maze, seasonal treats and drinks from its farm stand, and goats and chickens.
With the patch open through November 1 and Well Rooted's fields still producing, households in Tumalo have two pumpkin options this month. They cover different needs. Schilling's is the place for a maze and the animals. Well Rooted is the place where pumpkin picking comes with the rest of the vegetable list.
The Road to Tumalo Falls Is Changing Over Too
The same week also changes access to Tumalo Falls. Visit Bend reports that Forest Road 4603, the drive to the falls, is closed to motor vehicles from November to May. In winter, visitors reach the falls from Skyliner Sno-Park, and a Sno-Park permit is required from November 1 through April 30. The Deschutes National Forest's page for the Tumalo Falls Day Use Area, last updated August 14, 2026, carries directions and day-use details, but it doesn't post a specific 2026 gate-closing date. Anyone who wants one more drive to the falls this year should plan it for October and check with the Forest Service before relying on any particular weekend.
Closer to home, the county's road work has eased off. Deschutes County's July notice listed work and a closure on Tumalo Reservoir Road between Bailey and Johnson roads. Tumalo Reservoir Road doesn't appear in the county's notice for October 4 through 10. That means no scheduled work is posted for this week. It is not a formal announcement that the project is finished.
What Keeps Posting Hours After November 1
After the closing stretch, the question for winter is simple: which places publish hours without an end date? In Tumalo, the list is short and specific.
Tumalo Farmstand
Tumalo Farmstand, at 19885 7th Street, says on its own site that "The Farmstand and Market is open YEAR-ROUND," daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at what it calls its new location. An older directory listing describes it as a seasonal stand that closes in October. The farmstand's current page says otherwise, and its own hours are the ones to go by. Once the U-pick fields and Saturday markets close, this is the Tumalo stop that stays open for local produce.
Tumalo Cider
Tumalo Cider Company's tasting room lists hours of noon to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It closes on New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. The business changed this year. In February 2026, the Source Weekly reported that Tumalo Cider is one of five brands in the newly formed Oregon Beverage Collective. The report describes a production partnership, not a merger, and says the member brands keep their own identities. Production is now shared, and the brand still carries Tumalo's name.
The Historic Tumalo Feed Co. Steakhouse
The steakhouse at 64619 US-20 has had new owners since mid-2025. The Deschutes Historical Museum reported in June 2025 that Mitch and Jen Thisius bought the restaurant and renamed it The Historic Tumalo Feed Co. Steakhouse. Its website currently shows a schedule labeled "Summer Hours": Wednesday and Thursday 4 to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 4 to 9 p.m., and Sunday 4 to 8 p.m., closed Monday and Tuesday. The restaurant also lists closures for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Easter Sunday, and Super Bowl Sunday. No winter schedule has been posted, so a call ahead is the safest plan for a November dinner.
The holiday lists line up in one useful way. The cider room and the steakhouse both close on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. Holiday plans in Tumalo will need to account for that.
Tumalo State Park Stays Open in a Reduced Winter Setup
The largest public space in the community doesn't close. Tumalo State Park lists day use and camping as open year-round, with some campsites and all of its yurts available through winter. Winter brings some changes. The water spigots at tent sites are shut off, and the flush toilets close for the season, with a portable toilet on site instead. A November walk along the river works much as it did in September. An overnight trip needs more planning, mostly around carrying in water.
The park also sits at the end of a longer regional question. Bend Park and Recreation District's Deschutes River Trail South Study is looking at ways to close the trail gap between Sunriver and Tumalo State Park. The options include a possible new bridge and trail alignment, along with a no-build alternative. The district held a stakeholder meeting on September 2, 2026, and estimates the study will be finished in April 2027. No construction is underway near Tumalo this fall. The study is the planning step that comes before any build decision.
Five Saturdays Left
Counting today, Well Rooted has five Saturday markets left: October 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31. The last two fall inside the closing stretch, alongside the lavender party, the ceramics workshop, and the final day of the pumpkin patch. Starting November 2, Tumalo's regular options come down to the farmstand on 7th Street, the cider tasting room, the steakhouse on US-20, and the state park on the river.
